Lines of Research Summary

The Faculty of Labour Sciences and Human Resources has an interdisciplinary research activity which integrates very different lines of research ranging from international mobility of workers to sustainable development or corporate social responsibility. A detailed list of the current lines of research is provided below:

Line 1: Psychosocial health and organizations.

The prevention and management of the health impact of psychosocial hazards of work is the main aim of study of this line of research. The members of this line has participated in several international projects such as the “Participative Prevention of Psychosocial Emergent Risks in SMEs” financed by the European Commission.

Line 2: Statistics and demography.

As it is widely acknowledged, statistics has become a key element in most of research conducted in social sciences. This line of research focuses on the quality of statistical techniques applied to labour sciences and human resources.

Line 3: Work paths and migration.

Immigration and its impact on work conditions have gained increasing importance over the last decades. This lines of research analyses the relationship between migrations and work, paying special attention to the situation in developing and/or emerging countries like Morocco or Mexico.

Line 4: Corporate social responsibility.

Corporate social responsibility is an aspect of firms which is acquiring more and more importance nowadays. It is generally defined as the engagement of firms in activity that produces some social good. This line of research examines CSR from the double perspective of big firms and SMEs.

Line 5: Opinions, values and work expectation from students of the Degree in Labour Relations and Human Resources

The opinion of students is a key element when trying to match their expectations and the requirements of the labour market. This line of research have conducted several surveys over the last years that show very interesting results, among them the comparatively high adequacy of the abilities and capacities acquired by the students after completing their degree.

Line 6: Sustainable Development.

This line of research aims at promoting the research on sustainable development, cooperatives and digitalization. Sustainability is examined from a triple perspective: economic, social and environmental.

Line 7: Labour relations and unprotected groups under the Civil and Fiscal Legal System.

This line of research focuses on analysing how changes in the civil and fiscal legal system affect vulnerable groups in Spain.

Line 8: Employment and Sustainable Local Development.

The aim of this line research is examine the emergence of new areas of work and occupations and their impact on economic and social development at the local level. Its more recent projects focus on the service sector, in particular social services and knowledge-intensive business services.

Line 9: Integration of immigrant workers.

The increasing migration flows require the analysis of their impact from the point of view of integration. Among other issues, this line of research analyses the relationship between labour mobility and perception of social grants or the correspondence between the demand from immigrants and the capacity of governments.

Line 10 Alternatives systems for the solution of labour conflicts. New trends.

There has been a long debate in Spain on the efficiency of the legal system. This line of research examines the alternatives systems of solution of labour conflicts as a very useful tool to reduce waiting times and save costs.

Line 11 Information technologies, management capacities and entrepreneurial results.

The aim of this line of research is to analyse the impact of information technologies (IT) on the process capacities of firms, in particular on human resources management. Other effects are also examined like environmental sustainability.
